Museum's Heritage Week 2008 ( June 2-7 )...

In 2006, Helper was voted as the #10 True Western Town! In 2007, we became the #1 Top Ten True Western Town. Due mainly to the Western Mining & Railroad Museum, Heritage Week and the Balanced Rock Regulators. Come and see what makes us #1 and help us celebrate our "badness!" Tuesday, June 3, 2008 - "Ghost Towns by Dusk." @ 7PM A guided driving tour and preview of SueAnn Martell's next book, Coal Camps of Eastern Utah through the area ghost towns. Stay until dark for some scary (but true!) local ghost stories. Admission is by donation. Caravan starts at the Western Mining & Railroad Museum. Thursday, June 5, 2008 - "2nd Annual Bordello Ball" @ 7PM Come celebrate Helper's unique past with the 2nd Annual Bordello Ball. The event features a sit down dinner, lecture by Utah outlaw and lawman historian Joel Frandsen, and a live auction. All proceeds benefit the Western Mining & Railroad Museum Expansion Project. Advanced tickets are required - $25 per person or $45 per couple. Old West-style costumes are encouraged. Don't worry tenderfeet, no dancing is involved, but we guarantee you will have a "ball!" Rails Around Helper Signed Copies available and second Carbon County book underway...
	Image Replicas Mercantile is proud to be the only on-line source of signed copies of Rails Around Helper! Rails Around Helper is the newest book in Arcadia Publishing's historical "Rails Around..." series. This 128 page book tells the almost 100 year story of the Rio Grande's treacherous route between Soldier Summit and Provo, Utah and all of the towns that were created in between to service the railroad line. Rails Around Helper features newly restored by Teply Graphic Arts & Publishing, LLC and never before seen photos from museum archives and from private collections. SueAnn Martell's second book in the series is now in production and will be on sale Fall of 2008! Coal Camps of Eastern Utah will show the history of the coal mining towns that surrounded Helper and supplied the railroad. Now ghost towns, these mining company "camps" ranged from cramped tent cities and tar paper shacks to large Italian stone and red tile townships.
Photos for Coal Camps of Eastern Utah will come from the museum, private collections and Image Replicas Mercantile. Helper's Balanced Rock Regulators in print...

Helper's and Carbon County's Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) group, the Balanced Rock Regulators appeared in the October 23, 2007 issue of the Emery County Review. The Balanced Rock Regulators are notorious for appearing at the Western Mining & Railroad Museum's events and cutting loose with Hollywood smoky blanks -- which is partially why Helper has enjoyed True West Magazine's True Western Town Awards for the last two years! In addition to smoky blanks, they use cowboy weapons to shoot at steel targets in an Old West themed gun range.
